Seeding and Cover Cropping

Mid-November Work Day: Collecting native seeds from friends, neighbors, and community members to distributing and banking in the Plots. Lots of seeds also shared from Prairie Plots’ seed bank: primarily Rattlesnake Master and Texas Coneflower, but also Liatris spp. and Goldenrod spp. For the three restarted plots, we grubbed the bermuda grass and ragweed roots as much as possible and we cover cropped with field peas, clover, hairy vetch, and oats for the winter season.
